CBT-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT or ‘Talk Therapy’) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, marital problems, limiting beliefs as well as other mental health conditions.

Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications.

EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR therapy is an eight-phase treatment.  Eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation) are used during one part of the session.  After the clinician has determined which memory to target first, the client is asked to hold different aspects of that event or thought in mind and to use their eyes to track the therapist’s hand as it moves back and forth across the client’s field of vision.  As this happens, for reasons believed by a Harvard researcher to be connected with the biological mechanisms involved in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, internal associations arise and the clients begin to process the memory and disturbing feelings.

In successful EMDR therapy, the meaning of painful events is transformed on an emotional level.  For instance, a rape victim shifts from feeling horror and self-disgust to holding the firm belief that, “I survived it and I am strong.”  Unlike talk therapy, the insights clients gain in EMDR therapy result not so much from clinician interpretation, but from the client’s own accelerated intellectual and emotional processes.

The net effect is that clients conclude EMDR therapy feeling empowered by the very experiences that once debased them.  Their wounds have not just closed, they have transformed.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a changed state of awareness and increased relaxation that allows for improved focus and concentration. It also is called hypnotherapy. Hypnosis usually is done with the guidance of a health care provider using verbal repetition and mental images. During hypnosis, most people feel calm and relaxed. Hypnosis typically makes people more open to suggestions about behavior changes.

Hypnosis can help you gain control over behaviors you’d like to change. It may help you cope better with anxiety or pain. Although you’re more open to suggestion during hypnosis, you don’t lose control over your behavior during a hypnosis session.

It has been found that in the deep state of focus and relaxation that’s achieved with hypnosis, the unconscious mind is quieted down from the constant self-talk we engage in throughout the day.

Hypnosis is a tool where we are able to tap into the part of the brain where thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, sensations, emotions, memory and behaviors originate. As access the unconscious part of the brain, change can take place to reprogram those limiting beliefs that keep you from achieving the things you truly desire.

WHAT ARE SOME MYTHS ABOUT HYPNOSIS?

Myth: Hypnosis isn’t real. It’s a form of entertainment.
•Hypnosis isn’t a stage act or some magical act. Clinical hypnosis is a type of medical therapy that’s often used as part of a treatment plan that includes traditional medical approaches.

Myth: You lose consciousness or have amnesia when you’re hypnotized.
• Most people remember everything that happens during hypnosis. You remain aware of who you are, where you are and remember what happened during a hypnosis session.

Myth: You’re under the control of your hypnotherapist when you’re hypnotized.
•Your hypnotherapist guides hypnosis, but hypnosis is something you do for yourself. You can’t be made to do anything against your will. You won’t reveal any information that you wished to remain secret. You don’t lose control over your behavior. Hypnosis makes it easier to experience suggestions but doesn’t force you to have certain experiences.

WHAT CAN HYPNOSIS BE USED FOR?

What can hypnosis be used for? Almost Everything!

At Body Psychology we offer ‘packages’ of Hypnosis Sessions. This is because change happens more efficiently and effectively when you expose your mind to the same positive suggestions over a period of time.

We offer packages that are already set up for very common negative belief systems such as ‘Motivation’ ‘Forgiveness (of self and others)’ ‘Confidence’ and ‘Insomnia’ just to name a few. However, we pride ourselves in individualizing a Hypnotherapy Package specifically for each client.

Rapid Trauma Resolution – PTSD/Anxiety/Panic

Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) Therapy is a treatment designed to meet the needs of those dealing with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress, panic and severe anxiety.

While PTSD is commonly associated with veterans and first responders, it is also quite common in the lives of everyday individuals. A very high percentage of people suffer from trauma that results in PTSD.

RTM is a drug-free, non- traumatizing, cognitive re-imaging protocol for treating PTSD, panic and severe anxiety. In 3-4 treatment sessions, RTM leads the client through a series of visual exercises (like playing the memory backwards) designed to disconnect the target trauma memories from their coupled traumatic feelings.

This neurological process is called Reconsolidation. It severs the connection of the traumatic memories, to their traumatic feelings. The simple visual re-formatting steps produce unconscious changes. In doing so, neurologically, the traumatic memory is separated from its traumatic feelings. The content of the memory remains unchanged. By the end of treatment, clients spontaneously recognize that the traumatic memory has lost its’ connection to the traumatic feelings. The actual change happens unconsciously.

Research has shown that 3 sessions of RTM produce lasting remission in over 90% of clients. RTM is a safe, non- exposure therapy that avoids retraumatizing clients and keeps them calm during treatment. After RTM, clients can calmly think and talk about past experiences that used to upset them.

In 3 sessions, RTM eliminates nightmares and flashbacks in over 90% of clients. Research follow-ups at the one (1) year mark indicated clients as symptom free. Clients who complete RTM also report better sleep, better mood, greater enjoyment of life and family, and the ability to return to work and community life.

VETERANS: You can apply to Camaraderie Foundation for a scholarship to be applied toward the cost of your treatment.

Personal Wellness and
Nutritional Assessment
(Using Contact Reflex Analysis)

Emotional and Physical wellness are deeply connected. Mind/Body balance occurs when energy in our body is balanced and flowing with ease. When energy is not balanced, symptoms, syndromes, emotional dysregulation and disease can occur. Nutritional imbalance is often a root cause for multiple issues going on inside the body. These imbalances directly affect our emotional well-being and can result in various psychological disturbances. Common examples are depression, anxiety and panic attacks.

Designed Clinical Nutrition is based on a specific plan, derived from utilizing the CRA technique, for you as an individual. By accessing information about what your body needs nutritionally, we can raise the nutritional health of your physical body while also utilizing your individualized treatment plan for psychotherapy. Combining both will allow the body to repair faster and restore mind/body balance to your life.

Accessing information through muscle testing to determine what the body needs to restore its energy to normal balance. This leads to the creation of a Personalized Wellness Program, which consists of a combination of designed clinical nutrition, therapeutic essential oils, psychotherapy, and energy technology. Because no two clients are the same, no one receives the exact same program; everyone’s body is different.

CRA-Contact Reflex Analysis® (CRA)

Contact Reflex Analysis® (CRA) is a technique which analyzes the flow of energy in your body. A shift in muscle response indicates dis-ease or imbalances of this subtle energy, providing essential information indicating if there is ‘too much’ or ‘too little’ energy in an area of the body. This analysis is performed by checking the body’s reflex points.

Our bodies are created with the intelligence to naturally heal. The goal of CRA is to bring energies back into balance so healing can happen naturally, by relying on the body’s innate knowledge of these balances and imbalances.

CRA is a simple, safe, effective assessment tool for analyzing the body’s entire biofield, including its energy levels, reflexes and meridians, derived from Chinese medicine. It can quickly determine the individual nutrient needs of any organ, gland, or system. This provides a priority-based system that quickly determines what your individual body needs to accelerate the healing process both emotionally and physically.

The traditional CRA method uses the muscle testing technique to assess and locate dis-ease—imbalances in subtle energies of your body. The gentle, but firm push is like a question being asked to the body, while the muscle reactivity response indicates the answer. A subtle shift in energy always indicates when an area of imbalance has been found.

Neuro-Emotional Technique
NET

Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a researched backed treatment to help release and overcome past traumas and unresolved stressful events. Clearing stress and trauma blockages allow you to make decisions without attachment to previous negative emotional experiences, and rebuild positive response patterns in your life.

NET utilizes applied kinesiology (muscle testing), the elemental meridian systems from Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with specific acupressure points to help resolve mental blocks and restore emotional balance, energetic flow and vitality in the body.  By working directly with the emotional brain (limbic system) and subconscious mind, this technique identifies the core emotional blocks and patterns that impact the individual’s quality of life.

Neuro Emotional Technique is a comprehensive “whole person” approach to health by identifying emotions, nutritional deficiencies, environmental toxins, and structural issues that contribute to “dis-ease” in the body and mind.  It is a powerful holistic complement to psychotherapy, nutritional and chiropractic care.  NET researchers studied 23 cancer patients who had distressing cancer-related experiences that caused traumatic stress symptoms that persisted for at least six months. Some study participants received NET and others were waitlisted to a control. The treatment group received a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while listening to the story of their distressing cancer memory before and after NET. After NET, reactivity in a number of brain structures associated with the perception of emotional traumas was reduced.
