FIRST RESPONDERS - MILITARY

  • Veterans are at 72% higher risk of suicide than those who haven’t served.
  • Among veterans who served during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the suicide rate for those who were undeployed is 48% higher than for veterans who experienced deployment.
  • Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for post-9/11 veterans
  • In 2018, publication from the Ruderman Family Foundation found that, “policemen and firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty.”
  • In 2020, 116 police officers died by suicide while 113 died in the line of duty. In 2021, that number rose to 150 officers dying by suicide. Tragically, law enforcement officers have a 54% increase in suicide risk when compared to the civilian population
  • A study conducted by the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance found that 80 firefighters died by suicide in 2022.   Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of off-duty deaths with #1 being cancer.

The symptoms and suffering from what the body and mind experience from trauma is no longer a permanent disorder.  The unwarranted and intrusive emotional responses from Post Traumatic Stress can be significantly reduced and/or eliminated through utilizing clinically proven trauma protocols that rewire and provide new neural networks for the brain to associate with traumatic memories.

For the past decade, we have trained and specialized is working with and assisting veterans, law enforcement officers and firefighters in minimizing the physical and psychological effects of working in trauma-based careers.

In 2018, I had the privilege of attending a week-long Firefighter Culture Clinician Awareness Programs presented by The Central Florida Region Florida Firefighter Safety and Health Collaborative. This was an amazing opportunity to experience what these men and women do to serve our community.

I am also a member of the Winter Haven Police Department’s Leadership Council and our company donated a therapy dog as a resource for our local Law Enforcement Officers.
